The report that hidden Dutch citizens, or latent Dutch citizens, are able to obtain a Dutch passport, has appeared in various media. It only concerns a legislative proposal. It will not become a law until the Upper and Lower House have adopted the legislative proposal. Thereafter, the Minister of Justice will decide when the law will enter into effect.
Currently, this means that persons who think they qualify cannot do anything at this time. It will not be possible to submit an option request until the Act has entered into effect. A Dutch passport cannot be applied for until the option statement has been confirmed and the announcement of the granting of Dutch citizenship has been issued at a ceremony.

Guus Hiddink to coach Ivory Coast at World Cup
Dutch football coach Guus Hiddink will be national coach for the Ivory Coast team during the World Cup in South Africa reports Dutch public broadcaster NOS.
Hiddink will be employed from 15 May to 15 July by Ivory Coast if he can show within ten days that his contract with Russia has been dissolved.

Dutch capital to be put on trial over I. Coast waste dump
The city of Amsterdam is to be prosecuted over the dumping of toxic waste by a ship in Ivory Coast in 2006, the Supreme Court has ruled in a decision made available Wednesday.
"The Supreme Court refers the case back to the Amsterdam district court ... to be considered anew," said the judgment, overturning earlier decisions to dismiss the case against the city.

Dutch cabinet collapses over Afghanistan
The Dutch government, led by Prime Minister Jan Peter Balkenende, has collapsed over a rift regarding a possible extension of the Dutch mission in Afghanistan.
The Labour coalition partner demanded that troops be withdrawn this year, as agreed. The Christian Democrats led by Prime Minister Balkenende and the smaller Christian uni0n wanted to keep all options open, including the possibility of extending the mission in the province of Uruzgan.

Airport body scanners violate Islamic law, Muslims say
Saying that body scanners violate Islamic law, Muslim-American groups are supporting a “fatwa” – a religious ruling – that forbids Muslims from going through the scanners at airports.
The Fiqh Council of North America – a body of Islamic scholars that includes some from Michigan – issued a fatwa this week that says going through the airport scanners would violate Islamic rules on modesty.
